CHILDREN in Nepal are set to benefit from the generosity of music lovers in Darlington.

Tickets are now on sale for a concert celebrating 50 years of the Gurkha Welfare Trust due to be held in the town next month.

Featuring the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas and Gurkha Pipers, the event promises to be an exciting and energetic evening of entertainment.

Concert organiser Keith Ryding explained that funds raised at this year’s concert will go towards improvements to a school building in Nepal. He said: “At last year’s concert, we raised money to help a school build three new earthquake-resistant classrooms. This year, we have decided to support another school.”

Darlington mayor Nick Wallis will be among those at the concert and hopes the people of Darlington will once again show their support.

Cllr Wallis said: “I am looking forward to attending what I’m sure will be a fantastic evening of music.

“It was a pleasure to meet Keith in the mayor’s parlour and hear how preparations for the event are coming along.”

Concert goers will enjoy a mix of Nepalese and Western music, with traditional dances including the famous Kukri dance.

There will also be a fundraising raffle with a top prize of a silver Kukri – a traditional Gurkha knife.

The concert takes place in the sports hall at the Dolphin Centre, at 7pm, on Tuesday, 12 November. Tickets cost £17.50 (main hall) and £12 (sports seating). To book, visit www.gwt.org.uk/events-and-challenges/darlington or call Keith Ryding on 01969-663551.
