MORE than 60 people have helped raise over £1,600 for local mental health charity Wiltshire MIND.

They supported a fundraising event in Chippenham on Sunday evening organised by local MP Michelle Donelan.

The event at The Raj indian restaurant on Station Hill was attended by 63 guests, who each paid £20 for their meal and a free drink.

Afterwards, there was a raffle and an auction, with prizes including a cycling helmet signed by the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt.

The guest speaker was Carolyn Beale, the chief executive of Wiltshire MIND, who explained the charity is self-funding and operates independently.

Michell Donelan said: "I visited Wiltshire MIND a few months ago. They are a fantastic local source of advice and help for people with mental health problems."

Carolyn Beale thanked guests for their support and said the funds raised would help the charity to continue providing one-to-one and group counselling services across North, South and West Wiltshire.
