AN elderly man's wallet containing a substantial was stolen while he was shopping in the Shires, Trowbridge.

On October 28 the victim was shopping with his daughter when the suspect bumped into them, causing a distraction.

He later noticed that his wallet had been stolen.

A police spokesman said: "When on foot be aware of your surroundings and keep to well-lit and busy areas whenever possible and try to avoid routes that include underpasses, quiet alleyways, wooded or deserted areas.

"Try to look and act confident and keep valuables out of sight. Be careful if you decide to take out your phone, mp3 player of wallet in public. If you are wearing your music player this will also make it more difficult to hear someone approaching you.

"Consider getting a personal safety alarm to carry with you when out and about."
