A GROUP of hardy runners took to the trails of Coate Water wearing only their swimming costumes.

The event was part of a month-long fundraising effort to raise cash for the Swindon Night Shelter and foodbank the Swindon Food Collective.

Alan Butler is the brains behind the fundraising push, Runvember, which has been going since 2013. He hopes to get people running, swimming or cycling every day through November.

The 48-year-old from West Swindon said: “We’re going to run round here in our swimwear and try and raise a bit more awareness of homelessness and poverty in the town.

“Why do it? I don’t have much, but I’ve got more than some.

“Everyone needs a break.

“It’s cold, but the homeless are sleeping out in it all the time. We’re only doing half-an-hour in a pair of Speedos.”

Runners are encouraged when they sign up to make-up a box of food supplies. Those not able to put together a food parcel are asked to donate £30.
