BROTHER and sister Gabriel and Madeleine Longbotham are to compete against each other for the Wiltshire Young Musician Trophy following their outstanding performances in the 73rd Devizes Eisteddfod.

The pair from Devizes, who both go to St Augustine's Catholic College in Trowbridge, will take part in the festival concert on Saturday, November 30 at 7pm in Devizes Town Hall, featuring some of the best performers.

The event will include the Wiltshire Young Musician competition with five performers vying to win the Wiltshire Young Musician Trophy and bursaries totalling £500.

Madeleine,17, will play the flute, while her brother Gabriel, 15, will play piano. They both competed in last year's final but neither of them won.

They will be up against soprano Annabel Bigland, 17, from Devizes, violinist Eliza Munday, 17, from Exeter and pianist Liana Tian, 13, from Tidworth.

More than 900 children and adults took part in the Devizes Eisteddfod - the largest-ever in its history.

They played, sang, danced and recited their way through five days of intense competition - with performances ranging from fair to outstanding.

The annual event - which has only missed one year in 2004 - covered two days of dance with 380 entries at Laverton School, and three days of music, speech and drama with 320 entries at Devizes Town Hall.

Director Michael Johnson said: "Without the enthusiasm of parents, teachers and performers we would not be able to continue to develop this exciting event."

On Sunday, February 9 at 3pm, at Devizes Town Hall, there will be a 2018 Eisteddfod Class Winner's concert.

On Saturday, April 25 at 7.30pm, at All Cannings Church, there will be a concert featuring the Philomel Singers and outstanding young performers from the 2019 Eisteddfod. Admission to all the concerts will be free.
