A PRIMARY school in Trowbridge has received a £1,000 cash boost to install a pond in the playground.

The Friends of Castle Mead School has received the donation as part of the Persimmon Homes Wessex Community Champions scheme. The national match-funding initiative seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people.

Katy Gooding, treasurer of the PTA group said, “We’re thrilled to receive such a generous donation from Persimmon Homes.

“We are currently raising money to develop a nature area and pond in the school playing field. This space will provide a quieter and reflective area for pupils in their break times who may feel overwhelmed by the busy playground.

“We have already held a range of successful activities including our September and Christmas fairs as well as school discos and sales. The money will help turn our dream into a reality.”
