LONGLEAT'S Viscount Weymouth, Ceawlin Thynn and Viscountess Emma Weymouth are to switch on the Warminster Christmas Lights display on Saturday (November 30).

The big switch-on will happen outside the Chapel of St Lawrence in the High Street at 6.30pm as part of a day-long series of activities and events from 10am to early evening.

Viscountess Emma Weymouth joins fresh from the dance floor of Strictly Come Dancing where she wowed the judges with an elegant Viennese Waltz and earned four nines from the judges.

Warminster mayor, Cllr Paul Macfarlane said: “I am thrilled to welcome Ceawlin and Emma to our Christmas festivities this is going to be the best yet.”

The Christmas celebrations start with a Christmas Market in Warminster Civic Centre from 10am-4pm packed with gifts and treats from local businesses.

Visitors will be able to see Father Christmas in his magical grotto and marvel at a stilt walking reindeer.

The Christmas lights switch-on begins at 4pm when the High Street and Market Place will be closed to traffic, making way for food stalls and children’s entertainment.

A samba band from Bristol will lead the children’s lantern procession from Three Horseshoes Walk at 5.45pm to the Chapel of St Lawrence, where the town Christmas tree takes centre stage.

In the High Street, there will be food vendors, carols, zumba, stilt walkers, Charlie the donkey and a petting zoo.

Christmas carols will add to the celebrations when the special guests Viscount and Viscountess Weymouth turn on the Christmas lights.

Visitors will be encouraged to stroll through the town and enjoy the spirit of Christmas through the wonderful windows which are being created.

Assistant town clerk Tom Dommett said: "The businesses have pulled out all the stops this year and we are astounded by the imagination and the impact they have made so far."

The winner will receive a meal for two in the Agra Indian Restaurant and a trophy presented by the Mayor, Cllr Paul Macfarlane. Certificates will be awarded for highly commended windows.

The council will also announce who has won Warminster's best dressed window competition? To find out who won go to @warminstertowncouncil.
