A Bristol-based planning inspector has dismissed an appeal by a Longbridge Deverill couple.

Mr and Mrs Campbell, of Sand Street, had appealed against Wiltshire Council's refusal to allow them to demolish an existing outbuilding and build a single dwelling and a detached garage.

Their plans were refused in February because of access to everyday services and facilities by sustainable transport modes and because of its impact on the character and appearance of the site and the area.

The inspector, Mrs J Moss, said: "I have not been provided with any substantiated evidence demonstrating that there is a particular housing need in the village, or that the development would improve employment opportunities, services and facilities in the village."

The inspector said the proposed development would be harmful to the council's strategic settlement and delivery strategy.
