A 24-year-man from Trowbridge has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in the town centre over the weekend.

The man was arrested by armed officers at an address in the town last night.

He is now in custody at Melksham Police Station after being arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

A Police spokesman said: "Due to the nature of the initial incident, armed officers were involved in the arrest, but we do not want the community to be unduly alarmed."

The arrest relates to an incident in the town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning where a 41-year-old man was stabbed several times.

The victim is making a good recovery and is expected to be discharged from hospital shortly.

Police added: "Our enquiries are ongoing and we would continue to urge anyone with information which could assist the investigation to come forward.

"We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was walking or driving in the town centre between 4.15am and 4.45am on Sunday and may have either witnessed something or may have dash cam footage."
