A WARMINSTER legal firm has won an award for its work with the local community in Wiltshire and Dorset.

Farnfields Solicitors also has offices in Gillingham, Shaftesbury and Sturminster Newton in Dorset.

The legal practice has just won an award for Best Community Contribution at the Lawnet Awards which represents over 70 law firms nationally.

The award recognises firms which have implemented policies or executed projects that have impacted positively on their community by delivering long-term benefits.

Fiona Thomas, managing partner at Farnfields, said: "Businesses today recognise that they have a wider contribution to make to the communities in which they operate.

"Remembering the person and not just the law is the ethos that epitomises local law firm Farnfields.

"Working and living in the heart of the communities we serve, we have a deep understanding of the local issues faced. We are especially aware of rural community need and are delighted to make a positive difference."

Farnfields' activities have recently included fundraising to install four potentially life-saving defibrillators locally.

The practice has also supported the Wiltshire Mind community service by providing training on mental health awareness, as well as its ongoing support for social organisations such as Warminster Rugby Club.

Over the past six months, the family team at Farnfields have organised two very successful charity quiz nights in Warminster, raising over £1,400 for Jacob's Ladder, a not-for-profit community organisation which puts together creative, stimulating play events, which has allowed the small self-funding team to add greatly to their portfolio of activities.

Mrs Thomas said: "Apart from firm-led fundraising activities, all staff members have got on-board and have been particularly generous in their contributions on dress down days focusing the teams' minds on community or charitable endeavours."

Award sponsor, Jonathan Cave from Lloyds Bank, who presented the award, said: "Our winning firm stood out by demonstrating a clear understanding of the issues faced by those in the communities they serve and a commitment to playing a part in trying to tackle those challenges."
