AN AXEMAN who stood in the door of a pub with a hatchet in his hand has been given extra time by a judge to hire a lawyer.
Paul Gumm was told he could face jail after he pleaded guilty to a catalogue of weapons charges.
The 40-year-old had gone to The Greyhound pub in Trowbridge and stood in the doorway with a fearsome looking axe in his hand.
Gumm, of Lyneham Way, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty at the magistrates court to three counts of possession of a knife and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.
Appearing before Swindon Crown Court, Gumm told Judge Peter Crabtree he had not got legal representation.
The judge asked: “The matters you have been convicted of carry a minimum sentence of imprisonment. Do you understand that?”
“I do now,” replied Gumm.
Judge Crabtree adjourned the case to January 24, telling Gumm: “The starting point is you going to custody.”
Gumm was granted bail to return to Swindon Crown Court at the end of the month.
