TWO army lorries ploughed into the grassy centre of a motorway junction roundabout near Chippenham this afternoon.

The vehicles appeared to fail to negotiate the roundabout on Junction 17 of the M4 before crashing into bushes and trees on the centre circle.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: "We are informed that traffic is moving well on the roundabout. Our contractor, Ringway have been tasked to remove any damage and debris. Highways England are dealing with damage to the traffic lights."

Wiltshire Police said: "We were called just after 12.30pm today to a report of a collision involving army vehicles near the roundabout at junction 17 of the M4. There were no injuries. Vehicles were off the carriageway and recovery was arranged."

Highways England have said that the slip roads to the M4 were not affected by the crash and traffic is now moving freely.
