PLANS to create more pupil places have been given the go ahead.

The planning committee voted to allow Ladybridge High School to refurbish existing classrooms in the building last used by Bolton Music Service.

Principal Planning Officer Alex Allen told councillors that the proposal complies with council policy.

He said: “In effect, the proposal will allow for 30 additional places to be provided within the school. The overall redesign of the school, refurbishment, will complement the character and design of the existing school.”

The move gives the school an opportunity to increase capacity without having to create a new build extension, according to a report by the town hall.

It said: “The school are increasing their pupils numbers to meet ongoing demand for school places and require the accommodation for class bases.

"The purpose of the refurbishment and alterations to the proposed areas is to modernise and create a vibrant new environment to accommodate effective teaching and learning.”

There were no objections to the proposal.

The planning committee voted unanimously to approve the application.
