AN AUDI driver allegedly kicked the police officers who were taking him to hospital – after he wrapped his car around a lamppost.

Police were called shortly before 9.30pm on Monday to reports of a crash on Sudeley Way, Grange Park.

A grey Audi had hit a signpost and the driver initially fled the scene but was found nearby by police.

The suspected drink driver, a 33-year-old Swindon man was taken to Great Western Hospital to get checked out after the crash. Once there he kicked out at the police officers who had accompanied him.

A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said: “A 33-year-old man from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and two counts of common assault of an emergency worker.

“He remains in custody at Gablecross police station.”

Sudeley Road was closed by police while the vehicle was recovered.
