DRY-SIDE facilities at Trowbridge Sports Centre re-opened for use on Monday.

The move follows the closure of the sports centre on Frome Road on December 23 after structural examinations exposed the need for urgent remedial works.

Since then, Wiltshire Council, which owns the centre, has worked closely with Places Leisure, who manage the site, to bring its dry-side facilities back into use.

They include a gym and squash courts.

Cllr Philip Whitehead, the council’s leader, said: “We’re going through the process now of separating off the entrance so they can still use the rest of the spots centre.

“There are other things they have got to do so they have got to separate all the heating systems and make sure all the fire escapes work and allow other people to come in, in case there are any other problems.”

Allison Bucknell, cabinet member for leisure, said: “We thank everyone for bearing with us during this disruptive and frustrating time and apologise for the closure.

“I’m pleased to see the centre partially re-open and our teams are now working hard to understand the extent of the repairs and find the quickest way forward to ensure Trowbridge residents have access to a pool as soon as possible.”

Following a series of investigations and enabling works, the ‘dry side’ of the centre – which includes the sports hall, small sports hall, squash courts and dry change area – re-opened on Monday during normal opening hours.

People will be able to access this part of the centre to the left-hand side of the building, with clear signage in place to help guide them.
