POLICE have appealed for witnesses to two road traffic collisions on the A303 yesterday.

In the first, a woman was seriously injured following a collision on the single carriageway section of the A303 at Winterbourne Stoke at around 6.20am.

A lorry and a Renault Trafic were involved in the collision.

The driver of the Renault, a woman in her 40s from Cornwall, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southampton Hospital by land ambulance.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 30s, was not injured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was taken to Melksham custody for further questioning.

He has since been released under investigation.

A full closure of the A303 was put in place between Deptford junctions and Longbarrow roundabout while officers carried out a collision scene investigation.

Police said: "We’d like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision, including anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.

"Please call 101 and quote log number 24 of January 23."

In the second crash, at 5.45pm, an Audi A3 collided with a Scania lorry at the junction of the A303 and Amesbury Road near Solstice Park.

The driver of the car, a local man in his 30s, was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with head injuries. The male lorry driver was shaken but uninjured.

This stretch of road was closed for about six hours.

Police said: "We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage.

"If you can help, please contact our Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference log 220 of 23 January."
