Four people have been arrested and approximately £25,000 worth of class A drugs have been seized at addresses in Calne and Trowbridge.

On Wednesday police officers witnessed a vehicle go to an address in Dixon Way, Calne, and a suspected drug deal take place.

The vehicle then left the area and was stopped by officers who conducted a search and located a quantity of suspected class A drugs and thousands of pounds in cash.

A police spokesman said: "Police then attended the property where the suspected deal had taken place and located approximately 10 wraps of class A drugs and over £400 cash, as well as several mobile phones.

"A second address in Newcroft Road was then searched where evidence of drugs being prepared for supply were located, as well as a large quantity of suspected class A drugs.

"In addition, a search was conducted at an address in Bradley Road, Trowbridge, where suspected class A drugs worth around £20,000 were located thanks to police dog Baxter.

"Three men from London – two aged 19 and one aged 20 – and a 21-year-old woman from Trowbridge, were all arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

"They were taken to Melksham custody for further questioning and have since been released under investigation while our enquiries continue."

PC Simon Margetts, of the Dedicated Crime Team, said: “This was an excellent result by officers – through intelligence and proactive policing, we’ve taken a substantial amount of suspected class A drugs off the streets. This amount of drugs had the potential to cause a signficant amount of harm in our communities.

“As part of our enquiries, six mobile phones have also been seized and these will be downloaded and examined as part of our enquiries to determine the involvement of those arrested.

“We are fully aware of the impact drug activity has on neighbourhoods, especially in small, tight-knit communities like Calne and I hope this news brings reassurance to the public that we are committed to tackling drugs and the associated criminality.”

PC Steve Carroll added: “This is excellent news for the community of Calne. Last week, a large amount of officers were involved in Operation Samphire in Swindon which saw 61 people arrested for drug related offences, so I am pleased that this good work is being continued across the county.

“We will continue to work with partner agencies to ensure the vulnerable people caught up in drug activity are safeguarded and those intent on supplying drugs in our community are put before the courts.”
