POLICE have today appealed for witnesses after a woman in her 80s was injured in a collision in Trowbridge yesterday evening.

At about 5.40pm, the driver of a Citroen C1 was reversing in the road outside the McColls shop in Dursley Road when the vehicle collided with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian – a local woman in her 80s – became trapped under the vehicle as a result and had to be released by the fire service.

She was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with multiple injuries.

The driver of the Citroen, a local woman in her 40s, was arrested at the scene for drink driving and was taken to Melksham custody for further questioning.

She has since been released under investigation while further enquiries are conducted.

A Police spokeswoman said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage or CCTV footage which could help with our enquiries."
