PUPILS had a Ghana-inspired day at Langley Fitzurse School, near Chippenham, which has been sponsoring a Ghanaian child, Vivian, through the charity Plan International.

Katherine Bloomer from St Peter’s Church in Langley Burrell said: “It gives the pupils a better understanding of the country rather than just writing letters, and how different it is from Wiltshire. A friend from Ghana, Barbara, went round to classes to cook food and talk about the history.

“The whole school learnt the national anthem, and the staff and teachers dressed in the colours of the Ghanaian flag, red, green, gold and black.

“Justin Fellows from Rhythm Instinct ran an African drum workshops for each class and artist Fi Redmond made a flag and they played football as it’s important for girls there.”

Headteacher Mr Hearn said: “Everyone learned a lot. It was wonderful to work with the Draycot Benefice t, and we hope to do so again.”
