IT'S half-term outdoor activity that is a sell-out hit for kids of the human kind - and goats love it too.

Hope Nature Centre in Trowbridge is allowing children to take some of its cloven-footed residents walkies around the animal park.

Manager, Dave Gillingham, said: “We did one back in January and it sold out so we thought we would do another as there was a demand from visitors so we would like it to get bigger. It’s been a huge success for the charity and the kids love it."

In fact it is going so well the centre is hoping to expand the idea. “We want to do similar with donkeys so kids can try one or two new things in a day, but it’s a work in progress,” he said.

Mick and Jean Green, were with their grandchildren eight-year-old Leo and Emily, six. Jean said: “It’s lovely to come here with the kids and it doesn’t make them scared. We’ve been here before so it’s good to be outside in the fresh air. Leo has special needs so it’s really nice for him to have this experience.”

The youngsters' favourite part was feeding the goats .

Jean Mace was with her great grandchildren Eloise and Milo, both eight. She said: “It’s quite unusual to have this activity and it keeps them out of mischief. We come up here in the summer as it’s something for the kids to do and we love the outdoors and the animals.

Mum, Gemma Tucker said: “It was nice to get out and do something different. It popped up on Facebook so I booked it as we keep meaning to come and try it. Her son Jude, four, said: “I think it was ace.”

The centre in Frome Road, which merged with Fairfield College in 2018, provides training for young people with learning difficulties.

Caroline Creese from Fairfield said: “We can use the opportunity to teach people about animals, the best way to learn is to do. It benefits everyone.”
