CORSHAM Knitting and Crochet Group have been busy knitting boobs, prem babies and demonstration nappies for Birthlink based in London.

Three volunteers from the charity took them to Myanmar, formerly Burma, to Lailope, a village three days journey from Bangkok. Health and Hope Charity also work in this area.

These items are educational aides to train families and healthcare professionals. This was an opportunity to replace some old beliefs. It was thought that colostrum was dirty and had to be discarded and also babies needed water, tea, milk and sugar, or rice water, which often resulted in diarrhea. The midwives were so grateful and excited to use these knitted items to persuade mums that exclusive breast feeding was best. It was certainly a project worth doing.
