PLANS to raze 54 metres of hedgerow in Westbury have caused consternation among some residents.

They have been unable to voice concerns on Wiltshire Council's planning portal about the proposal by Mr and Mrs Pike, of Glenmore Farm, at The Ham, to destroy the hedgerow.

The couple first registered the planning application on January 23 and the deadline for consultations expired on Wednesday February 19.

The only consultees were Heywood Parish Council and there are no comments from them or any concerned residents wishing to object to the scheme.

Rachel Stroud, of Warminster Road, Westbury, said she was concerned that people haven't been able to object to the planning application before a decision is made on March 5.

She said: "There is a planning application going through to destroy 54 metres of perfectly healthy hedgerow on Glenmore Farm, The Ham, but no access is being allowed to read the plans or make comments.

"It's yet another way of the underhand tactics of this council that couldn`t care less about Westbury and will do whatever it wants, regardless of the threat to nature."

The planning portal is not allowing people to comment on the proposal because there are no documents available.

In a message, it says: "Sorry, no documents were found for application number 20/00712/HRN."

It is not known whether recent technical issues with Wiltshire Council's planning portal have contributed to the problem.

The council said: “We have recently experienced some technical issues with the council's website. This has affected the planning portal as well."
