A ROAD was closed for almost seven hours this morning following a 'serious' collision. 

The A4260 Oxford Road near Banbury was closed both ways between Adderbury and Deddington, following the crash at about 4.20am.

Thames Valley Police officers were on scene for much of the morning but confirmed shortly after 11.15am that the road had reopened.

Traffic was unable to pass between the junctions with the B4031 and Berry Hill Road.

Oxfordshire County Council also described the incident as 'serious'.

South Central Ambulance Service confirmed that it sent a rapid response car and an ambulance crew to the scene.

It was unable to provide further details.
