STORM JORGE: Roads at Lacock Bridge, Reybridge and the Staverton to Holt road are closed due to flooding.

Wiltshire Council is asking people to avoid these areas and not to attempt to drive through flood water.

There is a lot of standing water on roads throughout the county and flood alerts are still live in and around Trowbridge.

The Environment Agency says river levels have risen sharply at the Trowbridge Paxcroft river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall overnight.

It warns that flooding of property is imminent.

"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Heather Shaw Road and West Ashton Road on the Paxcroft Brook and riverside properties at Southwick, Lambrok Close, Berkeley Road, Acacia Crescent and Albion Drive on the Lambrok Stream," it said.

Further persistent rainfall is forecast over the next 2 hours.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens and checking defences. Please consider installing property flood resilience equipment and move family, pets and cars to safety,"

Storm Jorge also saw the closure of Marlborough market today, Newbury Races was cancelled due to flooding and the football was called off in Swindon. The M4 junction 17 to Chippenham was also severely flooded this morning.

Police are warning that strong winds might cause more trees to fall, and urge caution along smaller rural roads.

Meanwhile, a critical incident has been declared in South Wales where residents are being advised to stay indoors and avoid waterways.

The latest named storm - the third to hit the UK this month - is forecast to bring rain, gales and snow, with weather warnings in place from Cornwall to the north of Scotland and across to Northern Ireland.

As rain and winds hit overnight, police in South Wales urged residents to stay indoors and avoid waterways as it warned that the extreme weather had triggered a "critical incident".
