AS A TRIO of Paddy Fitzpatrick fighters are set to make their professional debuts on the Neilson Boxing Fight Town IV card in April, the Swindon-based trainer says his talent can only benefit from his relationship with promotor Mark Neilson.

After joining forces for the first Fight Town show in 2018, the Swindon duo have gone from strength to strength as they prepare to put on another show later this year.

Since their first show, local talent such as cruiserweight Luke Watkins, super-middleweight Sam Smith and other fighters from the south west have all featured in Wiltshire.

For the fourth installment, hometown favourite Ryan Martin will be headlining the card at the MECA, which will also showcase local fighters Bec Connolly, Jensen Irving and Phil Williams.

In addition to the experienced professionals, Ferndale-road based trainer Fitzpatrick is ready to unleash his latest batch of fighters, as Jamil Elo, Lewis Roberts and Jake Price look to claim their maiden wins in April.

“The next show will have a final eliminator for the Commonwealth title, and the winner of that fight faces the British and Commonwealth champion,” he said.

“There is a final eliminator for the Southern Area title and then there are three new guys making their debuts, who are all local.

“It’s a stacked card, and they’re just getting better. Mark believes in the product and he believes in Fight Town and I feel like we are building something.

“Swindon is a ‘fight town’ too, which is why we keep doing these shows, because the sport is very popular here.”

Reflecting on their work together over the last two years, Fitzpatrick believes the Swindon shows are going from strength to strength.

“Me and Mark work well together, I trust him and he trusts me and he knows I’ll honour my word,” he added.

“I think we have put on increasingly good shows in the town each show we are learning a bit more and doing a bit better.

“We have both done well with things individually but we are definitely better when we are working together.

“I feel like together we cover more of the bases and we both know what our strengths and our weaknesses are.”
