A DECISION about floodlighting Warminster's new skate park so it could be used year-round has been delayed until the autumn - after it emerged it could cost £25,000.

Warminster Town Council, which is behind the project, got a £25,000 estimate to install floodlighting at the skate park in the Lake Pleasure Grounds from its constructor Maverick.

Tom Dommett, assistant town clerk, said: “The council has been approached by members of the public about the possibility of floodlighting for the skatepark to address the issue of overcrowding and extend use time.

“Maverick, who built the skatepark, have provided a free estimate of £25,000 as the cost. Maverick’s proposal is to have lights that are operate on a time clock and a user button.

“That means there is a double lock, so the lights would only come on if it was within the time limits set by the council, eg between 4-6pm, and while skatepark users were activating the lights," Mr Dommett explained.

“Currently, the council has no budget for floodlighting. Members agreed that consideration of floodlights should be included in the budget discussions in the autumn. .”

However the council has unanimously agreed to spend £8,050 on refurbishing the park’s Pavilion Café, which has been under the control of the town council since 2017.

Mr Dommett said: “The kitchen was installed in 2013.”As a commercial kitchen it is beginning to show signs of its age and is too small.

“It doesn’t have enough food preparation space and is designed for use by one person, which is inadequate in peak user times.”
