MEMBERS of the Wiltshire Rights of Way and Countryside Team helped Warminster Town Council to clear Smallbrook Lane in Warminster.

It will form part of a new 1,800-metre cycle route from Boreham Road through the Town Park to the town centre.

The 20 volunteers included three members of the Green Lane Association, a member of Wiltshire Bridleways Association, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust volunteers and the West Wilts Ramblers Work Group.

Brian Micklam, of West Wilts Ramblers has asked Wiltshire Council cabinet member, Cllr Bridget Weyman, and Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan, to ensure that more resources are allocated to maintaining the countryside.

Barry Cox, of the Ramblers’ Wiltshire & Swindon Area, said: “Ramblers are not always keen to share narrow lanes with off-roaders and horse riders so it was great there was a common cause to clear and widen the way in Smallbrook Lane.”

“Walkers will have seen many of the green signs on stiles and bridges erected by West Wilts Ramblers. Unfortunately, because of austerity, less work of this type can be done.”
