A 12-year-old girl was assaulted by a group of three boys in Trowbridge town park yesterday (02/03/20).

The attack happened between 4.30pm and 5pm when the girl was walking out of the park through the alleyway towards Magnet Kitchens on Polebarn Road.

She was assaulted by a group of three boys who were entering the park.

A male passer-by intervened and walked with the girl away from the scene to ensure she was safe. Police are now trying to trace the 'Good Samaritan'.

The youngster wasn't seriously injured but was left shaken by what happened.

Det Con Karen Haddrell, from Central CID, said: "We would like to hear from any witnesses who could assist our enquiries, particularly the boy or man who intervened and assisted the girl.

"Any incident which involves violence of this kind will understandably be concerning for the local community.

"However, I want to reassure you that this type of incident is rare and we will be putting on increased patrols in the town as a precautionary measure.

"We are aware of reports of a group of boys being involved in anti-social behaviour in Trowbridge park over the weekend and we are carrying out detailed enquiries, including looking at CCTV."
