A 13-year-old teenage girl was assaulted by a man while walking with a friend in Trowbridge.

The attack took place just after 7pm on Monday March 2 as the girl was walking with a friend over the footbridge between Sparrow Street and Drynham Street.

She was approached by a man who made inappropriate comments before holding her hand and pushing himself against her.

The girl’s friend helped push the man away and he walked off in the direction of the Dursley Arms in Drynham Street.

The suspect is described as white, aged in his 40s, of slim build and around 5 ft 8 inches tall.

He had short brown hair and was wearing a blue coat, black jogging bottoms and was carrying a green rucksack.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the assault.

Det Sgt Neil Le’Maire said: “During this incident, the victim wasn’t injured but was left understandably shaken up as she did not know the man and did not know what his intentions were.

“We are conducting a number of enquiries in relation to this incident including obtaining any relevant CCTV footage from the local area.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may know this man or anyone who was in the area at the time who could help with our investigation.”
