THE restoration of a local waterway will receive a welcome boost from a charity’s annual quiz night next month.

The Melksham, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust are holding the popular event at the Neeld Community & Arts Centre in Chippenham on Friday, April 17.

Entry is £15 per team of up to four people, with refreshments and a licensed bar available. The event starts at 7.30pm with doors open from 7pm.

Branch chairman Dave Maloney said: “The quiz night has outgrown previous locations in Melksham and Derry Hill due its increasing popularity.

“In the early years it was mainly a social occasion for our volunteers but now attracts lots of interest from the wider community too.

“It’s a fun night for friends, families, neighbours or work colleagues to come together and put their minds to the test.

“There’s always plenty of friendly competition, and it’s all in aid of a very worthy cause!”

The general knowledge quiz will feature ten rounds, covering lots of different subjects, with tea, coffee and cake available. The licensed bar will also be open.

Displays will focus on the Trust's canal restoration between Chippenham and Melksham.

Membership leaflets for potential volunteers will also be available.

Teams must register for the quiz by Friday, April 10. Email quiz@wbct.org.uk

The aim of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is to restore the waterway from the Kennet & Avon Canal near Melksham to the Thames & Severn Canal near Cricklade and the River Thames near Abingdon, connecting Calne, Royal Wootton Bassett and Swindon.
