A driver has died after he suffered head and back injuries when his car left the A4 at Froxfield after apparantly colliding with a tree just over a fortnight ago.

The 76-year-old man from Devizes was rushed to the great Western Hospital in Swindon after the smash, which happened sometime before 6am on February 25.

The crashed car was spotted by another driver who alerted police, and the man was taken to hspital.

A police spokesman said; "It is believed the driver hit a tree before his vehicle – a Volkswagen Caddy - came to rest in a hedge. He was taken to the Great Western Hospital with leg and back injuries but has since sadly passed away.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and they are being supported by a specially trained officer.

"Earlier this week, collision investigators attended the scene and had to close a section of the A4 for several hours while further investigation work in relation to the collision was carried out.

"We’d like to hear from anyone who saw the collision on February 25 or may have dash cam footage of the incident.
