Abbeyfield school will partially close from tomorrow as they tell year 10 and 12 students to stay home.

The school are asking pupils from both years remain at home because to a shortage of staff as more people begin to self-isolate due to the coronavirus.

In a letter to parents joint headteachers Nick Norgrove and Ralph Plummer, said: “We are writing to inform you of the current situation at Abbeyfield School. Tomorrow the school will be open but due to staff absence we will be asking year 12 and year 10 students to remain at home and complete work.

“Whilst we continue to monitor the ever-changing situation, we are confident that we can provide a safe education for the majority of students tomorrow.

“We will review the staffing situation at the end of the day and update you as soon as possible if the situation worsens.

“This decision has been made on the basis that we now have a significant number of staff who are self-isolating due to being part of a high-risk group or are presenting symptoms.”
