£800,000 has been pledged by Wiltshire Council at its cabinet meeting on Tuesday for repairs to the Trowbridge swimming pool.
Wiltshire Council agreed to fund the repairs and future maintenance of the swimming pool at Clarendon to ensure it can stay open for another five years.
The £500,000 repairs will extend the working life of the swimming pool, and an additional £300,000 to maintain the facilities.
Cllr Alison Bucknell, cabinet member for leisure said: “Assuming the repairs are approved, works would be actioned with the aim to reopen to the public by the end of September 2020, but obviously with the Covid-19 warning that’s come in with every timescale and decision at the moment.”
A future Trowbridge leisure centre was also proposed to provide the community with a gym and swimming pool.
Cllr Bucknell added: “This will ensure that the community has a modern swimming pool and gym for when the lifespan of the Clarendon swimming pool expires.”
Trowbridge swimming pool has been closed since December 23, after structural examinations revealed it needed urgent repairs to the steel framework.
