MUSICAL theatre group Trowbridge Amateur Operatic Society is facing a double blow this spring.

Not only has it been forced to postpone its May production Shrek the Musical because of the coronavirus threat but it also faces the prospect of having to find new storage space for its scenery and props as its storage premises are being sold.

TAOS traditionally puts on two full musical shows each year - one in May and one in November - and was looking forward to a bringing a production of Shrek to the stage in May.

Chairman Claire Borovac said: "Due to government restriction on theatres it is highly likely we will be postponing our Shrek production but as soon as we can give alternative dates we will let everyone know.

"We are sorry for the disappointment this may cause but everybody’s safety is obviously of utmost importance.”

The society has also been hit with having to find new premises to store their scenery and props.

Ms Borovac said: "This is really a double blow for us. We had secured the licence -one of the first to be granted it - and were busy making the scenery for the show.

"But the owner of our store is selling the property and we are now faced with trying to find another building to house our stage scenery and props.

"We have been fortunate in having this large store and are hoping to find another venue so the theatre musical can continue.”

The group is looking for a building large enough to store not only their stock but also to build more scenery for forthcoming show.

They would be willing to share space and storage costs with other organisations.
