LIKE many care homes, Romney House care home in Trowbridge made the difficult decision to close their doors to all visitors a few weeks ago.

But staff were determined at the Westwood Road home wanted to ensure the ladies and gentlemen living with them didn't feel isolated and cut off from the community.

So they asked local children to write letters, draw pictures or do some colouring and send it into the home.

Harriet Wyatt, activities coordinator said: "The result has been overwhelming for both staff and residents.

"We are so moved by the amount of beautiful pictures, cards and gifts arriving at the home every day. I cannot tell you the joy it brings."

TK Maxx also joined in the efforts to keep up morale by delivering bags of goodies including Easter Eggs for staff and residents.

Romney House is also planning to launch a children' poetry competition in April. It will ask local children to send in poems for the residents to judge and decide on a winner.
