A TEN-year-old boy is showing his support for hospital workers after having ‘NHS’ shaved on the back of his head.

Harry Johnson, of Granville Street in Barrow, wanted to publicly say thank you to the tireless efforts of NHS workers in a unique way.

The Victoria Academy pupil asked his mum if she would shave the letters ‘NHS’ on the back of his head in a show of support for emergency staff tackling the coronavirus pandemic.

Harry’s mum Lucy Johnson, a former hairdresser, agreed to take the plunge.

Mrs Johnson, who now works as a teaching assistant, said: “We were talking about the clapping which we had taken part in the night before and Harry mentioned he would like to do something else to show his support.

“He said he wanted to shave ‘NHS’ on the back of his hair.

“I used to be a hairdresser and said come on let’s do it then.”

Mrs Johnson said she was ‘very proud’ of her son for the gesture of support.

“I’m very proud of Harry for doing this,” she said.

“He understand what’s happening and knows how hard the NHS staff are working at the moment.

“We just wanted to thank them for that. I’m hoping his hair will have all grown back by the time he’s back at school.”
