VOLUNTEER repairers from Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon’s Zero Waste group and Holt group Tools for Self Reliance have been kept busy mending a selection of household items during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Among the items they recently repaired on Saturday, March 14 were a vintage Hoover vacuum cleaner, a wheelbarrow wheel, lamps, alarm clocks and a bag.

Satisfied customers said the café was “doing a brilliant job” and there were requests for it to be more frequent. Local resident Sarah Hobson said it provided a “great service. More people need to know about it”.

Lou, from the Sunflower Studios furniture upcycling pop-up shop, was there with tips on how to re-love old furniture.

Plenty of tea and biscuits were consumed and a raffle helped raise money for male cancer charity Orchid www.orchidcancer.org.uk.

Jess Thimbleby, who helped organised the café, said: “Thanks to everyone who volunteered and came along. We were really pleased to help so many people mend much-loved, useful items and raise £122.65 for Orchid.

"They do great work – making people more aware of male cancers so they know what to look out for, helping support people experiencing male cancer and funding new research.” Every year over 50,000 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate, testicular and penile cancer. NHS advice is to be aware of what feels normal for you. Get to know your body and see your GP if you notice any changes.

A number of people volunteered their mending skills for a future Repair Café and the group hope to run another one in the autumn.
