Police have revealed that the teenage driver who died after crashing a BMW on the M4 this morning came from the Cardiff area.

They are now appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened at about 1.30am on the M4 between junction 14 and 15.

The blue car being driven by an 18-year-old hit road barriers. He died at the scene and his 19-year-old passenger was taken to Great Western Hospital in Swindon for treatment.

The man's family has been notified.

The M4 was closed in both directions for approximately eight hours whilst the investigation and recovery of the vehicle was carried out.

Sgt Lucy Fair from the Collision Investigation Unit said: "If you were in the area at the time and saw or heard what happened, please get in touch.
