A team of scouts from Bradford on Avon have cooked up a series of culinary delights to represent Wiltshire at the regional inter-county finals when the Covid-19 lock down ends.

The winning team, Pegasus Pioneers, comprising Olly, Seth, Luke and Sam from Bradford on Avon Scout Group, took part in the annual Wiltshire West Scout Cooking Competition at Bradford on Avon Scout HQ on January 25.

They won the competition by cooking a marvellous vegetarian menu comprising a French ‘fondue savoyarde’ for starter, Italian fresh egg pasta with butter, tomato and onion sauce for the main course and a “yummy” Japanese purin served with fresh cherries for the dessert.

Six teams took part from four troops from Bowerhill, Bradford on Avon, Broughton Gifford & Holt and Warminster.

They had to prepare a three-course meal on the theme Olympics – Past, Present & Future with a budget of £20.

Wiltshire West District Commissioner Chris Broom said: “The teams were very inventive with their menus and prepared very delicious world cuisine."

“The Bradford on Avon group’s table looked fabulous with a garland of the Olympic signs, Olympic design chair covers and fairy lights in abundance.”

The competition was organised by assistant district commissioner, Brian Fitchett, assisted by district team members with guest judges Brian and Monica Hoggett.

The Bradford on Avon team went on to represent the Wiltshire West District at the County Scout Cooking Competition on February 23 at the Wiltshire Scout Centre.

Mrs Broom said: “Their excellent cooking skills enabled them to win this competition and they will go on to represent the county at the regional inter county finals sometime in the future.”
