Latest figures from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England published on Wednesday afternoon show the total number of people to have tested positive in the borough is now standing at 92 compared to yesterday's figure of 86.

The news comes as there have been no new reported deaths in Blackburn with Darwen since Sunday, with the death toll for the borough still standing at 16.

Elsewhere, Lancashire's confirmed cases have also increased to 1,026 which is up by 103 on the previous days statistics.

Blackpool's total now stands at 94 compared to 85 yesterday.

This brings the total cases in Lancashire as a whole to 1,212 compared to 1,094 on Tuesday.

There have been 6,640 confirmed cases in the North West and 128 more deaths taking the total number of deaths across the region to 770.

This is the first time the North West region has reported more deaths in a 24 hour period than were reported in London.

Nationally, as of 9am on April 8, 282,074 tests have concluded, with 14,682 tests on April 7.

That means 232,708 people have been tested in the UK of which 60,733 tested positive, this is up 5,491 on Tuesday's total of 55,242.

As of 5pm on April 7, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 7,097 people have sadly died, an increase of 938 on yesterday's figures of 6,159.

The number of confirmed coronavirus-related deaths in England has now hit 6,483.

Yesterday the figure was 5,655, so comparing that with today, there have been 828 more deaths in the country.

Age wise, out of 6,483 deaths in England, 5,966 people who have lost their lives have been aged 60 or above, with 3,390 of those deaths being amongst people aged 80 and over.
