A YOUNG man from Trowbridge died after stepping in front of a train, an inquest was told last Wednesday (April 29).
The Assistant Coroner for Wiltshire & Swindon, Ian Singleton, returned a narrative conclusion into the cause of Mateusz Bernard Cwikalowski's death.
The inquest in Salisbury heard Mr Cwikalowski, 21, died from multiple injuries on November 15 last year.
He was seen to use a foot crossing at Drynham Lane, Trowbridge, across the main railway line between Trowbridge and Westbury. Having crossed the southbound line, Mr Cwikalowski entered onto the northbound line into the path of an oncoming train travelling at 60 mph. Although the driver applied the emergency brakes he was unable to stop the four- carriage 250-tonne train hitting Mr Cwikalowski.
Mr Singleton said: "The intention behind Mateusz entering on to the track remains unclear."
