A Chippenham man was found dead with a bottle of vodka in his hand, an inquest in Salisbury heard.

The decomposing body of Rory John Fitzpatrick, 51, was discovered lying on the floor in the living room at 19 Cowleaze, Chippenham, shortly after 2.45pm on December 23.

Wiltshire and Swindon senior coroner David Ridley concluded the cause of death was alcohol-related.

“Rory had been dead for some time and was showing signs of decomposition. It is more likely than not that Rory died from ketoacidosis attributable to alcohol toxicity. He was found with a vodka bottle in his hand."

“Hepatic steatosis again attributable to alcohol exposure more likely than not reduced his metabolic reserve thereby contributing to his death.”

The inquest into Mr Fitzpatrick’s death was originally opened on February 18 and resumed on Wednesday, April 29.
