SCOOBY-DOO has been cheering up the neighbours up in Westrop during lockdown.

Sharon Willis dug out her Scooby costume and puts it on to walk her dog Dizzy to brighten up the day.

The 49-year-old said: “I had seen other people doing something similar, there’s a guy called Barry Cleaves who dresses up as a T-Rex and walks around. I thought it was such a good idea.

“I had the costume from when my son had his rugby tour because we had to dress up in silly outfits all the time. I just walk around Highworth with my dog and to be honest I think I’m the one that gets so much out of it.”

Dizzy, aka Scrappy, also gets gets lots of attention.

Sharon said: “The first night was absolutely brilliant, we got toots and waves from people. As we walked past people in the street they would clap and laugh.

“It has obviously made other people smile but knowing that, it gives me a great big smile and makes my day.

“I’m a total extrovert, we always dress up for every Halloween, Christmas and new year.

"I want to encourage other people to try dressing up and walking the streets because it’s lots of fun.”

Her husband, Neil, thinks she is crazy.

Sharon said: “He thinks I’m absolutely mad dressing up as Scooby. I haven’t told my son yet because he lives in London, but I just know he wouldn’t be surprised."

Sharon has also been making soup for people in a bid to help others in the pandemic.

So far she has cooked 18 soup for the volunteers of the Highworth Covid-19 Mutual Aid group.

The group can be found on Facebook and it was set up to help people struggling to get by in lockdown, either they can’t afford food or are self-isolating.

Volunteers also help by calling members to keep them company, picking up prescriptions or taking their dog for a walk.

Sharon told the Adver: “I’m really keen just to help these groups, they do amazing work helping the community.

“And Scooby loves to cook soup for these hardworking people. Those who have put themselves out there to pick up donations, track down those in need of help, walking their dogs, going to the chemist, they are the heroes.”

When the weather gets warmer, Sharon plans to dress up as a hula girl to keep the smiles on her neighbours' faces.
