Award-winning Chippenham charity Waste Not Want Not is working behind the scenes to plan life after lockdown.

The charity hopes to reopen in early June – pending government guidelines – but is working to ensure it can do so with the safety of customers, volunteers and staff in mind.

The recycling charity which offers free collection on donations said they know how difficult lockdown has been for those unable to access replacement fridges, cookers and furniture with all electricals verified and tested.

Waste Not Want Not will be in urgent need of stock to meet the requests they’ve has from people struggling across North Wiltshire.

The charity will be taking advance collection requests by phone or via our website from Tuesday, May 26 and they will be in touch promptly.

Manager Phil Reade said: “It was heart-breaking to have to close but the team’s looking forward to opening again and helping customers old and new find items for their homes at affordable prices."

Chairman of trustees, Ray Dawson said: “Although we were forced to close, we have been preparing for the future and were fortunate enough to gain funding and other support in the last few months.

"This will enable us to help even more people on low income improve their homes at low cost when we reopen.

"We will also be offering volunteering opportunities to work alongside our wonderful team in a variety of roles.

"Anyone interested to learn more can get in touch now and we will get back to them promptly”

A Waste Not Want Not spokesman said: “During lockdown, many previously homeless people have been offered shelter.

“When they move into accommodation which may well be empty, WNWN will be there to help them turn it into a home just as they do for others making a fresh start in life such as survivors of domestic abuse and refugees referred to it for help by various agencies.”

Details of the confirmed date for reopening and other news will be announced through the charity’s social media and website.
