Thousands of pounds worth of drugs have been recovered after Wiltshire Police stopped a car near Trowbridge.

The VW Golf was stopped on Blackthorn Way, Staverton on Thursday, May 28 at around 10.30am.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "PC Storm Brand searched the vehicle and discovered 1.4 kilos of cannabis with a street value of up to £14,000."

The driver, a 28-year-old local man, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He was taken to Melksham and has now been released under investigation.

Sgt David Hambly said: "This was good work by one of our officers PC Storm Brand who had suspicions about the vehicle and decided to carry out a stop and search.

"The quantity of drugs found was substantial and it's good to know that through this proactive piece of work, this large amount of cannabis has now been removed from the supply chain and taken off the county's streets."
