PUBLIC toilets and children's play areas in a popular Warminster town park will stay shut for the time being because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The toilets and the play area in the Lake Pleasure Grounds were closed in mid-March to comply with the Covid-19 coronavirus public safety guidelines.

Cllr Denis Brett, chairman of Warminster Town Council's parks and recreation committee, said: “While the Lake Pleasure Grounds have remained open, the toilets have stayed shut to stop the spread of coronavirus.

"The Government’s advice is to allow outdoor exercise, but not to encourage the use of indoor areas where there is 'a higher risk of close contact and touching surfaces', which clearly applies to public toilets.

"We will look to re-open our toilets but only when we are satisfied it is safe for both our staff and the public to do so.

"We will be making a thorough assessment of any necessary adjustments such increasing the cleaning regimes before any change is made."

Cllr Brett added: "I am very pleased to say that the skatepark and tennis courts we recently re-opened in line with Government guidance are being used responsibly.”
