POLICE sealed off Trowbridge multi-storey car park in St Stephen’s Place this morning for a medical emergency.

It is understood they were dealing with a man who was mentally distressed.

The incident ended safely with the man being spoken to by police and referred to a local GP.

Wiltshire Police said: “We initially took a call just after 9am from a man in a stairwell of the car park in St Stephens Place.

“Due to concerns regarding his welfare, officers attended the scene and spoke with the man – he has been referred to a GP.”

The emergency was one of a series of similar incidents that have taken place at the car park in recent months.

Relatives of some people who have been involved in the incidents have called for barriers to be installed on the top level to make it safer.

The car park is still owned by Wiltshire Council, which has so far rejected calls to install safety barriers.

The proposed sale of the car park to the company that owns the Castle Place shopping centre is still ongoing.
