OFFICERS investigating an incident at Erlestoke Prison in April have urged locals to report their concerns if they see anything suspicious.

The move follows enquiries in the Hampshire area after two men – one in his 30s and one in his 50s and both from Southampton - were arrested on April 8 on suspicion of bringing/throwing/conveying a prohibited article into/out of a prison.

The men were released on police bail and enquiries have been ongoing since.

On Friday, officers conducted a warrant at an address in Southampton in connection with the incident and a number of items of interest were seized.

Det Sgt Rob Blake said: “This initial incident was reported after vigilant staff at Erlestoke prison had spotted a drone above the prison boundary which is believed to have been used to try and drop packages within the prison fence.

“Officers continue to work closely with Erlestoke and regular patrols of the area are conducted.

"We have also been working closely with those living in the local area following a number of similar incidents at the prison, and encouraging residents to report their concerns so we can take action immediately."

"Enquiries in relation to this incident remain ongoing.”
