AVEBURY residents have pressured Wiltshire Council into agreeing for stricter security measures around Summer Solstice.
Cones will go out and there will be security provided by the council and the National Trust in Avebury itself, despite revellers and worshippers being told to stay away.
It follows a recent announcement by English Heritage that they will not be able to host the solstice at Stonehenge due to the on-going ban on mass gatherings.
"I’m grateful to Cllr Richard Clewer for his decisive intervention and for securing this outcome, which will reassure the community and the Trust.," said Avebury parish council chairman Stephen Stacey.
The camping sites, the village pub, car parks and toilets will all be closed and Wiltshire council has already announced that the Ridgeway byway, popular with campervans, is closed to motor vehicles.
Thousands gather every year to watch the sun rise at Stonehenge and Avebury to welcome the longest day of the year around June 20.
