TWO green causes have joined forces to create community vegetable plots in the centre of Devizes.

Sustainable Devizes is now part of the Incredible Edible movement and has turned a once weed strewn flower bed outside Carpet Right into a vegetable plot and created a second pop up garden outside the nearby car wash.

Graham Martin said: “Devizes is joining the Incredible Edible movement which has been adopted by towns and cities around the world.

“This movement connects people through the power of food. Any scrap of spare land can be cultivated.”

During loockdown members of Sustainable Devizes cleared the weeds from the flower bed outside the carpet shop and planted it with vegetables.

At the car wash site bulk liquid containers have been recycled and converted into raised vegetable beds. Plants were donated by Pippa McKinnon and Louise Rowles, and materials funded by car wash owner Jakupi Gent.

Across Devizes there are other plans to grow food. Paul Jupp who runs the not for profit Meadow In My Garden seed company is working with local residents in around Pans Lane to develop a community garden.

Paul has already given wildlife a boost and created a blaze of colour with wild flowers by the old railway bridge in Pans Lane.

Sustainable Devizes is looking for more sites where vegetables can be grown to improve the look of the town and will provide tasty, fresh vegetables. If you are interested in taking part contact admin@sustainabledevizes.org.uk
